What is the significance of the Vesicoureteric reflux?

VUR causes urine to flow back up through the urinary tract, often leading to urinary tract infections. VUR can cause urinary tract infections (UTI) and, less commonly, kidney damage.

What is Vesicoureteric?

Vesicoureteral (ves-ih-koe-yoo-REE-tur-ul) reflux is the abnormal flow of urine from your bladder back up the tubes (ureters) that connect your kidneys to your bladder. Normally, urine flows from your kidneys through the ureters down to your bladder. It’s not supposed to flow back up.

Is VUR curable?

Your urinary tract is a one-way street from the kidneys down to the urethra. VUR (vesicoureteral reflux) is when the urine goes in the wrong direction back up the ureters. Newborns, infants and young children are most affected but, thankfully, VUR usually isn’t painful, long-term or incurable.
